<itunes:summary>Did you know that Comcast, the largest cable television company and second largest Internet service provider in the U.S., uses Twitter to figure out, if something is wrong with its network?

According to Sarah Milstein (http://sarahmilstein.com/), a Web 2.0 strategist and Co-Founder of 20slides.com (http://www.20slides.com), more and more companies start using Twitter. They use the micro-blogging service to listen to and resolve complaints. Not only that Twitter delivers them free research data, some of them use Twitter as „Canary in the Cole Mine“ – as Sarah puts it. Especially smaller companies promote their products via Twitter in a smarter way (http://radar.oreilly.com/2009/02/twitter-drives-traffic-sales-a.html).

When starting a Twitter account, a business needs to determine who within the company will run it, says Milstein. Businesses should not always twitter about themselves, but also share information that is related to their expertise: “The biggest mistake a company can make is thinking this is a great place to push out information about itself".

Currently, Sarah is writing a book - together with Tim O'Reilly - about Twitter. The "The Twitter Book (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596802813/)" will be available in June. Before joining O'Reilly in 2003, Sarah was a freelance writer and editor, and a regular contributor to The New York Times. Sarah can be reached via Twitter @SarahM .

The interview was recorded during the Web 2.0 Expo (http://www.web2expo.com/webexsf2009) in San Francisco at the beginning of April for German Public Radio "Deutschlandfunk (http://www.dradio.de/dlf/sendungen/computer/945516/)" and "Bayerischer Rundfunk (http://www.br-online.de/bayern2/iq-wissenschaft-und-forschung/iq-feature-silicon-valley-ID1238418649128.xml)". The video version is published here on my private blog.

 <itunes:summary>
Om Malik believes that in the next ten years we will experience a jump into a new era of broadband internet. He calls this new internet age "Ultra Band". 50 megabits and even higher internet connections will be normal for everyone. The new broadband web also requires a change in our life style. On the other side it will create a whole set of new opportunities and challenges."You need to live the broadband to invent something", says Om.

The 42-year-old Indian-American technology writer sees in Twitter just the beginning of real-time internet. "It's the simplest manifestation of this long term trend". In his opinion Twitter represents the big evolution towards the end of communications. Om thinks, that a lot of people don't seem to go beyond the short messaging part.

Om Malik is a succesful digital publisher and obviously has a little weakness for latin superlatives. His San Francisco based company Giga Omni Media (http://gigaom.com/) produces several blogs of which GigaOm is probably the most known. According to their website they reach 1.75 million people a month around the globe.Giga Omni Media employs 18 people.
